City Planning Update

9/26/2019

Estimated Map Release
We’re still ironing out some last minute updates to ensure participants get an accurate map of the event. Look for the Participant map to be released next week, most likely Tuesday, Oct 1st.

During this time (and more so once the map is released) we ask that you remember that this entire event is volunteer run. We’re doing this out of a love for the community in our free time. We’ve all put in a lot of time and effort into making this event happen, run smoothly and be enjoyable for all participants. With that in mind, please take a moment to reach out to a volunteer and tell them how much you appreciate what their doing. It really does make a world of difference. <3

RV Placement at Myschievia 2019
Congratulations you industrious burners, RV registration and attendance are at a record number this year! Last year at Meowchievia we had just under 10 RVs registered. This year despite having the same number of ticket sales we’ve placed over three times as many!
City has been working tirelessly to find placement for all RV’s that registered on time, as well as accommodation for stranglers. Both Crossroads and the area marked “Open RV Camping” on last year’s map have been filled to the brim.
We are currently working with Parking Leads to accommodate additional RV’s to be placed in parking. Once we’re able to get back on land at the final work weekend we’ll figure out the most suitable land in parking to place RV’s and look for any additional spaces we may have missed.

What’s the big deal with RVs?
The logistics of getting RVs into place at Myschievia are significantly more challenging than in the expansive dessert or the flat plains and prairies of many other Burns. The land is much more conducive to erecting a structure in place than driving a similarly sized vehicle into the same spot. This is because trees exist. A lot of trees. And you can’t drive through trees.

Myschevia takes place in the piney woods of East Texas, a rough terrain that is heavily timbered. While the City and Land teams have worked diligently with the Land Owner over the years to make the land more hospitable to hosting our event, it’s still not very friendly to RVs. While we’ve worked to map the land, we haven’t had the time to document all the trees. There’s so many of them and I swear more are growing by the day.

On top of that some pockets of terrain are made up of a sandy loam. When wet this soil can become mushy, and under heavy rain and traffic can turn into a quicksand like mud. RVs are significantly heavier than tents and this limits where they can be safely placed. Overall Crossroads has a denser soil, is less treed throughout, and minimizes an RV’s trek through problematic terrain to get in and out of the event.

Fortunately for our RV population, Hughes Springs has so far been scant on rain and currently the land is significantly drier and sturdier than it was last year. But as a community we are still holding out hope for rain so that we can burn ban stays lifted and we can burn that beautiful effigy!

So, if you have an RV, we highly recommend you bring traction boards to place under the wheels so that in the event of rain it will help to prevent the possibility of getting stuck on land.
