If you’ve done this before, you’ve probably heard all about it. If you’re new to burns, or just need a refresher, check out our new zine for a crash course! You can view the spreads below, print your own, or catch an Earth Guardian on duty at the burn and see if you can snag one from them (Anyone who wants a typed version with image alt text, you can access it in the Google Doc here: https://tinyurl.com/EGZine) OVERVIEW: MOOP stands for Matter Out Of Place. That usually means trash, but sometimes it can be anything–clothing items, jewelry, if it isn’t present on land naturally, then it’s MOOP! A huge part of our job as Earth Guardians is ensuring the MOOP burners drop doesn’t get left behind to trash the land and affect wildlife. With just a little awareness, you can make less MOOP and help us keep our burn clear of trash! Our biggest tips: Come prepared to pack out your own trash. There are no trash cans on land, so show up with your own trash bags and have a plan to haul out what you brought in. Reduce trash created on land by removing unnecessary packaging before you arrive. Think reusable containers, bulk boxes instead of individually-packaged snacks, etc. The less paper and plastic waste you bring in, the less you have to bring out! Avoid wearing clothing/costumes that shed. Think sequins, feathers, rhinestones–anything small that can pop off unnoticed and become accidental MOOP If you see MOOP in the wild, please help out your burn! Pick it up (if it’s safe), and dispose of it in your camp trash. You might not notice a few extra pieces, but it can save us whole bags. If you see someone else drop MOOP, don’t be afraid to yell “MOOP” until they pick it up! Overall, just hang onto as much of your trash as you can. We’re all stewards of the land, and it’s our goal as burners to ultimately LEAVE NO TRACE! Hey Myschievia Family! We’ve got some AMAZING news that we’re so excited to share with you!! This year, we're bringing an incredible laser-light show to the effigy burn and the Production Team (formerly the Pyro Team) needs some skilled hands to help us create this experience! We’re specifically looking for volunteers with experience in: 🎛️ AV (audiovisual) industry: If you have skills in wiring, connecting systems, and basic electrical work, we’d love to have you on board! Your expertise will be invaluable in setting up and running our laser-light show. 🔧 General technical abilities: Those with experience in setting up AV systems for home theaters, offices, or similar setups—this is your chance to shine! Your skills in connecting, troubleshooting, and managing equipment are exactly what we need. We are first looking for volunteers who can join us for the All Hands Final Work Weekend on Sept 27-29 to help dig cable trenches and bury the cables. This groundwork (ha!) is essential to ensure our show runs smoothly! During Myschievia, we will need help with the following: 🚚 Unloading and setting up AV equipment 🔌 Wiring and connecting systems 🛠️ Testing and troubleshooting to ensure everything runs smoothly 👀 Monitoring the systems during the show and providing crowd control for safety Why Volunteer? Theme Camp and RV registrations both close next Sunday, September 1. Don’t be like Tripod and show up to Myschievia with your unregistered theme camp. Your camp mates will not like it. P.S. Theme camps are encouraged to attend either Site Ops Load Out weekend (Sept. 21-22) or the All Hands On Deck VIP weekend (Sept. 27-29, final work weekend) to mow and clear their camp’s spot. Also, volunteering for either Site Ops or Land Prep/Zoning during those weekends will give you credit towards a Volunteer Incentive ticket for Myschievia 2025. With that! We are less than two weeks out from RV & Theme Camp Registration closing! If you are planning to bring an RV or a Theme Camp, get you information in ASAP. The faster we get info, the faster we can potentially get a proof map out and give everyone an opportunity to come out on the work weekends of Sept 21 and Sept 28 to mow and tend to your area. (Note if you come weekend of Sept 21, prepare for the afternoon so Site Ops has time to get out there and weekend of Sept 28 is all hands on deck). This year will be a pretty fun year to be a part of the META team, so come on out to the land and help us build! We will be having an in-person only meeting August 24th at 6pm at the home of the META Lead, Minnie, in Kaufman. If you would like to help out this year, come on out, have some burgers with us, and let’s talk about the plan. To get the address to the meeting, please reach out to Minnie or find the event in the META Facebook group. We will be building both the effigy and the temple on site at Armadillo Acres during the VIP Work Weekends Aug 30- Sept 2, Sept 13-15, & Sept 27-29. There will be plenty of opportunities for all skill levels to get involved! No experience needed, just a willingness to help. Show up Friday night and stay all weekend or come for just a few hours to lend a hand. Sha Tay Tay will be leading Temple build working Saturdays during the day down on the lower field. Greenbean will be leading the Effigy build. He will have a day shift working from around 9am until it gets too hot to work gathering the materials we need from the shady woods. That team will then rest during the heat of the day and pick back up around 7pm, once the lower field is in better shade, and working into the night on construction. Please check in with Minnie when you arrive or depart so she can keep track of your volunteer hours. A meal will be provided for the build team each weekend, and there will be plenty of supplies on hand as well for anyone who would like to make themselves a sandwich for lunches. We will also have plenty of water and gatorade on hand to keep people hydrated.
