General Guidelines
- Registration and Approval:
- All burnable art must be registered with the Art Team prior to the event. Contact Minnie at [email protected] to schedule your burn and receive approval. Art Team Lead will discuss your burnable art project with the Fire Art Safety Lead and Fire Safety Lead prior to approval.
- Upon arrival, check at Fire HQ to inform them of your burnable art and connect with the Art and Fire Teams for placement and inspection.
- Placement and Construction:
- Coordinate with the Art Team for placement and setup of your burnable art. Do not begin construction without Art Team approval.
- Ensure that your art piece has proper secure footing, either through ground anchors or guy lines.
- Height and Size Restrictions:
- The maximum height for any burnable art piece is 10 feet.
- Permitted Materials:
- Only natural materials and approved fire-safe components may be used. Minimal use of natural fabrics is allowed.
- Prohibited Materials:
- No synthetic fabrics or plastics.
- No glue-based wood materials (e.g., MDF, melamine).
- No chipboard/particleboard, hazardous materials, or flame retardants.
- No pressure-treated wood or materials containing heavy metals (e.g., lead, cadmium).

Operational Guidelines
- Ignition and Burning:
- Do not light your burnable art without permission from the Art Team and Fire Art Lead. A volunteer or authorized representative from the Fire Safety Team (VFD) must be present for ignition.
- All burning must be halted if weather conditions, such as high winds, pose a risk. Art pieces are subject to weather-related restrictions.
- Safety Measures:
- Have a fire extinguisher and a fire safety buddy present during ignition and burning. Your safety buddy should have an extinguisher and/or wet towels on hand.
- Never leave burning art unattended. Embers can ignite nearby materials.
