META (Myschievia Effigy & Temple Associates) would like to get as many people involved in these builds as we possibly can. These projects are such an integral part of our event! It is an amazing sense of accomplishment to be a part of such a large project and we would like to share that experience with everyone who is willing to help. Many hands make light work!
We need builders of all skill levels. Do not be afraid to join us just because you don’t feel experienced. We are happy to teach people who are willing to learn and not afraid to use power tools. Just make sure you sign the waiver first. We don’t just need builders! We need support volunteers as well. We will need people to help with graphics to keep everyone up to date on our latest activity. We need people to help keep the build teams fed & hydrated. We are looking for build locations, do you have an airconditioned workshop available we can use in the boiling summer months? We will be on the hunt to reclaim old untreated lumber to save rising lumber costs. Do you have a truck and would be willing to be on the list of people we can call to pick up materials? Can you sew? Can you paper mache? Are you good at networking to find people to fill needs like a project like this might have? We will be having a Zoom meeting June 25th at 6pm to meet everyone that’s interested and start to discuss the plan for each build. If you are interested in volunteering, we will find a job for you! Fill out this form and we will be in contact with you. Your voices have been heard and a lead for the new combined department of Myschievia Effigy & Temple Associates (META) has been interviewed and chosen. Please welcome our first volunteer to fill this new position: Minnie Smith will be the META lead this year! Minnie was the designer & META lead for the Meowschievia 2018: Cat Stuff effigy “Meow Mansion” as well as “Sagan Station” for Mys 2019: We are Star Stuff. She is a construction project manager, designer, and artist who is eager to help the community build amazing things! AND she's already building her team! The team will work closely with the designer of the effigy and the temple to bring their vision to life with regards for safety, feasibility, burnability, and budget. If you are interested in being a part of the META, they are looking for volunteers! Whether you have experience building or not, they can put you to work. All it takes is the willingness to learn! Let's talk Effigy and Temple submissions! Effigy and temple submissions are due by June 3rd at 11:59:59PM. Email them to the META lead here. BUT FIRST - Read the META proposal guidelines here:
The META will review the submissions with the LLC, and the qualified submissions will be presented at Summer Town Hall by the designer for the community to vote on June 10th. The winning designer will then work with the META to see their design to completion.
If you are interested in building an effigy or a temple, but you feel like you might not have all the skills necessary to undertake such a daunting task or just need some advice, Minnie is interested in helping. If you need some help preparing your submission, please reach out before the June 3rd deadline. Effigy & temple submissions must include a concept drawing, a basic blueprint, an estimated budget, a proposed materials list, and they all must adhere to the LLC guidelines for each. If you are interested in submitting an effigy or temple, please reach out to Minnie for more information. We polled the populace and the people have spoken!
An overwhelming number of you said you'd prefer to have a designated META lead that is chosen every year before effigy proposals. Want to know more about the position before you apply? What does the META lead do? As the lead of the Myschievia Effigy & Temple Associates, your role encompasses overseeing the entire process of construction and design from start to finish. META Lead will be responsible for encouraging and working with communal participation in both Temple and Effigy builds -First, you need to assemble a team of dedicated and skilled workers who are passionate about bringing the Temple and Effigy to life and committed to the project's success. -With a team in place, you will work alongside them to design both structures, considering both the practical and artistic aspects of the build as well as the budget. -Throughout the construction process, the lead will maintain a balance between artistic vision and practicality. -The lead will ensure that the designs are safe, sturdy, will not harm the environment, and remain within budget. -All builds must follow strict guidelines, and it will be the lead’s job to enforce these guidelines to keep both our volunteers and attendees safe. -Finally, when the Temple and Effigy are complete, the lead will work with the ICS team to oversee their burn. Think you've got what it takes? Apply here! Myschievia is thinking about changing up the way we designate the effigy and temple team process.
As it stands, we vote on effigy and temple proposals at the Summer Town Hall and the submission that wins the vote is responsible for building. The proposed change is to have an elected META lead who has prior build knowledge to oversee the build teams. Everyone will still get to propose and vote on the effigy and temple, we'll just have an elected lead to oversee the actual build. What do you think?
