Work Weekend!

7/31/2024

Picture
Volunteer Registration is OPEN, and it’s a great time to join the Land Ops team as we clear and prep Armadillo Acres leading up to the main event! Land Ops leads several critical on-site work weekends in Hughes Springs to clear brush and fallen trees, mow overgrown plants, open up trails, ensure roads are open and functional and get campsites ready for use. These are typically longer volunteer shifts than other departments but come with some nice benefits like:

  • Easily rack up your necessary hours to secure next year’s VIP tickets
  • No ticket required to join work weekends—camp with us on the land and enjoy working and playing with a great group of burners outside Myschievia itself!
  • Volunteering early means more time to kick back and enjoy the burn

We have three work weekends scheduled for Land Ops duties:

  • August 30th - September 2nd (Long Weekend)
  • September 13th - 15th
  • September 27th - 29th

For further details check out our blog post: http://www.ntxb.org/blog/working-at-home Sign up on our fancy new volunteer platform (look for City - Land Prep in the pre-event schedule): https://myschievia.playa.software/event/2 Or reach out to our Land Ops lead Snuggles at: [email protected]

Art Grant Update!

7/31/2024

Picture
Great news, Art Enthusiasts! The Art Department has been cooking up some spicy updates—no, not a late-night taco truck, but close! After an exhausting marathon of deliberation, research, rewrites, and some serious legal mumbo-jumbo, we've revamped the Art Grant Policy!
Here’s the scoop:
  1. No More Waiting Game: Art Grant recipients will now get 100% of their funds upfront! That’s right—no more 50/50 split. You’ll still need to turn in your receipts by the end of October or face the dreaded “no-future-funding” penalty, but you won't have to front the costs and wait to be reimbursed. You're welcome!
  2. Leads, You’re In!: Yes, you heard it right—leads can now apply for art grants too! We know you’re the masterminds behind the scenes and could use a little extra help bringing your art. Just a heads up: LLC, Batcave, and the Art Grant Committee are still out of the running due to conflicts of interest. But if you’re not in the money-distribution game, why shouldn’t you get a boost for your art?
  3. Food’s In: We’ve decided to include food coverage in art grants! Because let’s face it—who doesn’t need a grilled cheese sandwich shoved in their face while volunteering? Creativity thrives on cheese and comfort!
  4. Art Supplies, Not Infrastructure: We’re sticking to funding supplies for creating art, not infrastructure for theme camps or art cars. So, we still can’t fund a canopy or transportation, but we CAN fund art for it!!
If you would like to read the new policy, you can check it out here: tiny.cc/ntxb--art-grant-policy
All this means you better wow us with some jaw-dropping art at Myschievia this year!
Don’t dawdle—applications are due by 11:59:59 PM on August 8th. Get those submissions in before the clock strikes midnight!

Got questions or need help? Slide into the #Art-Grants channel on the Myschievia Discord Server or shoot the Art Projects Lead, Tiff, an email at [email protected].

And don’t forget, whether you're applying for a grant or just bringing your own artistic brilliance, you still need to register for map placement!

We’re excited to see what creative wonders you’ll dream up this year! Thanks for sticking with us through the changes. Remember, we’re always in a state of liminality, always learning, growing, and changing; so keep the feedback coming!

Much Love,
Minnie & The Art Team

Ticket Update!

7/5/2024

GA the tickets are currently sold out! Don't fret though, we'll release more once we get more fabulous volunteers on board. If you rocked at least 8 hours of volunteering at Myschievia in 2023, check your email for those shiny VIP tickets. Mark your calendars for July 31st, when we'll tally up any unclaimed VIP tickets. Once we have our volunteer coverage sorted, and know how many VIP tickets are left unclaimed, we might have another round of General Admission ticket sales in August! So keep your eyes peeled! If you've snagged a ticket but your campmates are still ticketless, VOLUNTEER! The more shifts we fill, the more tickets we can unleash, and you’ll earn VIP status for next year. Help your friends and secure your VIP spot—win-win!
And a heads-up: this is our last year at Armadillo Acres. Plus, you’ll need to bring your A-game for lawn maintenance at your theme camp because we’re without a major lawnmower this year. Time to get those grass-cutting skills sharp!
You can resell your tickets via the Quicket site. Keep an eye out for our new volunteering portal going live on 7/14, and don’t forget, Theme Camp and RV Registration opens on 7/14! Art Grant Registration closes on 8/8, and Theme Camp and RV Registration closes 9/1. Get ready to make some magic!
Feel free to message this Facebook Page if you have any questions or reach out to us directly via our email on the website or Discord: https://discord.gg/Xk5SdsXv

An Update From Our City Departments

7/1/2024

Hello Myschievians!

Several of Myschievia’s City Department Leads spent the day at Armadillo Acres recently for Land Recon. We assessed the land, talked with Hap, and started formulating our plans for our work weekend volunteer needs.

In the past, during work weekends, a fellow community member and participant has lent NTXB use of their “murder mower.” That mower was the reason the Land Ops team was able to get our campsites so pretty and cleaned up.

Murder Mower isn’t available to the NTXB community this year, and as a community, we’re all going to have to step up and show up to work weekends with our mowers if we want our camp sites to be as mowed and cleaned up as they have been in the recent past.

Work Weekend Schedule
  • August 30-September 1
  • September 13-15
  • September 27-29, All Hands On Deck

During Work Weekends, you can volunteer with our Land Ops department helping prepare the land for Myschievia (Snuggles is the lead), our City Planning department helping mark placement of theme camps and art pieces (Havock is the lead), or with our Zoning department helping to mark our city’s roads and trails, as well as maintaining our city’s signs (Innuendo is the lead).

If you would like to volunteer with Site Ops before the event, we have scheduled an entire weekend to focus on just Site Ops. That weekend is September 21-22, and Hot Husband is our new lead for this department. We will need volunteers at the warehouse to help load the truck that Saturday morning, and we will need volunteers on land to help unload and stage.

You can sign up for any of these volunteer opportunities when the volunteer sign ups go live, July 14. Contact the department leads with any questions.

Speaking of July 14, Theme Camp and RV Registration forms will open on this day. They will close on September 1.

Theme camp leads, keep an eye out mid-September for a possible proof map release so that you and your camp mates have time to coordinate making it out to a work weekend to help clear your camp’s site.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about volunteering for a city department, work weekends, or anything city related, Innuendo is the City Advocate for Batcave, and you can reach out to them via Discord or the Batcave email, [email protected].
