MEAT, Sanctuary, Rangers, Fire, Site Ops set up and tear down... So many still left open. We MUST have these shifts filled to actually have the burn. Why must we do this every year? You already know all of this by now. Go sign up so we can burn this October!

]]><![CDATA[The Magic of Work Weekends]]>Tue, 04 Aug 2026 17:47:59 GMThttps://www.ntxb.org/blog/the-magic-of-work-weekendsThere's a particular kind of magic that happens before the burn ever begins - out on the land, weeks in advance - when a handful of volunteers show up with chainsaws, loppers, tring trimmers, mowers, and work gloves and turn raw acreage into a home for our community.

What Land Prep Does
Work weekends are exactly what they sound like: four weekends spent on the property getting it ready for the event. Depending on the year, that can mean clearing new campsites, maintaining existing ones, hauling off dead branches and felled trees, marking trails, or tackling whatever the land throws at us.

It's not glamorous work. It's hot, it's sweaty, and it usually involves some combination of sunscreen, bug spray, and sheer stubbornness. But it's also some of the most meaningful volunteer time in the entire lead-up to the burn because none of Myschievia is possible without it.

When It Happens

Oct 2-4 [all hands! come get your theme camp space ready!]

What You Get Out of It
Showing up to a work weekend comes with a few tangible perks:

Early-release VIP tickets for the following year's event
$25 off next year's ticket if you put in more than 12 hours of work
Limited-edition swag - past years have included stickers, shirts, and patches

But if you ask most people who've been out there, the real payoff is the friendships forged over a shared tree stump, the pride of watching a patch of raw land become the place where your community will gather, and the particular joy of realizing that "work" can also be one of the best weekends of your year.

Give us ideas for trading card faces!

The cards requirements are:

Title
Image of the Title
Type of card
Description of positive and negative attributes

An example would be a manna card titled "LlamaLand" with an image of a herd of llamas on some grassy land. The attributes would be wide open space to frolic, -5 sun damage, -2 llama poop in your boot tread, +2 spitting bonus.

ART

Have a super sweet art project you want a super sweet sign on site for along with a place marker on the official map? Go register that here!

DMV

If you plan on cruising around the burn in an art-ified golf cart, a mutant vehicle, or even an e-bike with rad ground effects, don't forget to register your ride with the Department of Mutant Vehicles. Learn more about the guidelines and what to expect here then go register here!

RVs

Motor homes, camper-vans, caravans, travel trailers, camper trailers, fifth-wheel trailers, popup campers, teardrop trailers, truck campers, toy haulers, tiny homes, converted box and flatbed trailers... these all count as Recreational Vehicles on site! THEME CAMPS

Gather all the info from your camp mates, take a full inventory of what you'll be bringing, and then review the info here. Once all that's done, register your camp here!

VOLUNTEER

This burn only happens with your help! Volunteering gets participants out there and interacting with our other Myschievians. It's the best way to give back to our community!

There are a ton of volunteer shifts available before, during, and the day after the burn.

BEFORE THE BURN

Work weekends with land prep to beautify the site and make it ready for all the event.
Build days to help the META team construct the effigy and temple.
Site Ops shifts to help load the truck full of all of the infrastructure and unload it on site.

DURING THE BURN

Critical safety shifts like MEAT tenders, Gate attendees, Ranger shifts, Fire department volunteers, and Sanctuary listeners are vital to our event!
Want a more laid back option? Greeters, parking, earth guardians, zone guards, echelon, volunteer HQ, DMV, sound marshal and ice shifts could be for you!
Down to get your hands dirty? Take a Site Ops shift and cruise around on a cart filling generators, offering assistance to camps, making sure water jugs are full, and marking/filling any holes on site you find.

AFTER THE BURN

Do MOOP sweeps with the Earth Guardians to make sure the site is left better than we found it.
Join Site Ops for loading up the infrastructure and taking it back to the warehouse.

PERKS OF VOLUNTEERING

Volunteer for two shifts/6 hours and you get a guaranteed ticket available for next year (known as Volunteer Incentive Program or "VIP" tickets)!
Volunteer for 12 hours or more and you get $25 off of next year's ticket. This includes volunteering for work weekends, build weekends, any shift on site, or being in a position of leadership!

Every fantasy city worth its salt has town guards posted up! Whether you’re looking for the nearest tavern, bard burlesque, caravan parking, or just trying to get back to your party’s encampment, Zone Guards are helpful NPCs, armed with maps and a dream, waiting to point adventurers in the right direction.

The job itself is easy: stay at your post and help direct cars and foot traffic where they need to go. That’s pretty much it. These are 4 hour shifts that are mostly seated (entirely seated works too!) so if you’re looking for a low-impact way to contribute to the community and log some hours for incentive tickets next year, JOIN THE ZONE GUARD! Grab a friend and sign up together. Wear matching outfits. Do not under any circumstances run the “one always lies, one always tells the truth” routine.

Volunteer registration will be live July 15! We're currently testing Tribal Cities and the leads are getting ready to enter shifts for your signing up pleasure. We're even doing extra special, one-of-a-kind swag for volunteers who sign up before a certain date. Stay tuned for those details!
