Attendance 
Myschievia  2025 had 624 attendees, which is significantly fewer than past years. Likely reasons for the lack of attendees were that many people thought it wasn't going to happen last year and some were tentative about the new land. We did need to cap it at 650 last year because of a lack of critical volunteer slots filled. After discussing with other burn organizations, it was noted that attendance and volunteer numbers were down a hefty percentage at almost every burn last year. 

New Land 
We had some up and downs but the transition to Llama Land has been a success so far! 
The downsides: 
  • Fewer trees/less shade
  • More ants
  • Closer neighbors
The upsides: 
  • More open space for big theme camps, larger art projects, and open camping
  • Existing infrastructure that we are able to utilize
  • Ability to build and grow in the future

The landowners absolutely LOVED having us there and are looking forward to us coming back. Future plans include:
  • building a privacy fence to between the event site and parking
  • cutting back into the trees for more shaded camping
  • building picnic tables and benches at the "corners" for places to rest (these will be covered with shade structures, as well)
  • having more clearly marked roads

Event Recap and Incidents
The trial of fee-based early entry was a success! Since we have to pay per person, per day at the site, early entry for theme camps came with a cost per head. Those who paid it seemed to think this was fair and we didn't have too much of a cost to the org for those theme camps who wanted to get started setting up early.

There were a small number of incidents:
  • A noise complaint from a neighbor that resulted in a friendly law enforcement visit
  • A couple of locals who tried to enter without tickets
  • Another issue with the neighbor driving by and laying on the horn past gate and at the landowners' home
The landowners had no issues with the incidents, nor did law enforcement. Both were confident that we weren't doing anything to cause the complaints.

Volunteer Needs
Volunteers remain the backbone of Myschievia. Last year, the community contributed 5,714.5 volunteer hours between land prep weekends, build weekends, and on-site volunteering at the event. Thank you to everyone who volunteered!

Currently, a small core team carries most of the workload. Last year’s Mys nearly had to be canceled due to insufficient volunteer support. If we don't have the numbers again this year, we will be faced with this difficult decision again. We ESPECIALLY need Batcave volunteers! Check out this page for info on leadership roles.

This Monday morning shift restores the land after Temple's embers cool. Help us scoop ash and haul it away! (Want some ash for crafts or mementos? BYO container!)

2 | Volunteer for Earth Guardians
All Moop Troops get a nifty badge just for showing up. Trashey says, "Only you can prevent forest MOOP!" Wear his sign with honor.

3 | Bring in Less Trash
Trashey loves snacks. Trashey hates single-use packaging. Make Trashey proud - unwrap before you arrive, and prioritize reusable containers for the burn. Less work for us, more love for the land!

4 | Take out a bag of Earth Guardian Trash
Our MOOP swoops fill a lot of trash bags. Someone has to take those home, and it's usually Trashey's top brass (AKA Pebbles, Toast, and Gingersnap). Help us save space in our vehicles - take some EG trash home and get a special button in thanks!

5 | See MOOP, say MOOP!
You don't have to join up to be an Earth Guardian. Pick up MOOP you can manage. See someone creating MOOP? Chant at them aggressively until they pick it up! Trashey sees all, and you DON'T want to land on his shit list.

Exodus – Monday at Noon
The standard gate hours are as follows:​
  • Thursday: Noon - midnight
  • Friday: Noon - midnight
  • Saturday: Noon - 6pm
  • Sunday: Noon - 6pm (EXIT ONLY)
  • Monday: GTFO by noon
DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE OR AFTER GATE HOURS. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER AND WILL BE TOLD TO LEAVE.

Exodus has always been Monday at noon​, although it's never been strictly enforced. We know theme camps and large builds take time to break down - most of us are part of them! That’s why, while noon is the official call, there’s always been a little wiggle room. Around that time you’ll hear the familiar chorus of Ranger and Site Ops voices yelling, “Get up and pack your shit!”. 

If you’re a big camp, we’ll obviously give you some wiggle room. But please, do your best to plan ahead and be packed up as swiftly as possible so leadership can go home and shower!

Early Entry Rules
The gate hours for APPROVED early entry are as follows:
  • Wednesday Early Entry (must have been requested and approved): Noon - 9pm
  • Thursday Early Entry (must have been requested and approved): 9am - 11:30am
DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE OR AFTER GATE HOURS. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER AND WILL BE TOLD TO LEAVE.

At Armadillo Acres, early entry was a much looser thing - infrastructure set up, theme camps, and volunteers working first shifts could all submit a form to request early entry access to get the city built. But things have changed.

Our new land charges per head for early entry, which means things have to change. While leads setting up their stations, Site Ops building the infrastructure, the META team building the effigy and temple, and volunteers working first shifts were asked to request early entry this year, we can't open the gate for as many people as we used to. We’re not trying to kill the vibe—we’re just working with the realities of the land contract while making sure we still get the city built in time.

Re-Entry – Hard No
DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE OR AFTER GATE HOURS. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER AND WILL BE TOLD TO LEAVE.

This one has been the same since forever: there is absolutely no participant re-entry. Once you’re in, you’re in. Once you’re out, you’re out.

The only folks who are able to leave site and return are event organizers who are handling essential business (like Site Ops going on gas runs for generators and carts or LLC running to town for an emergency supply run if something breaks or goes missing). 

Allowing participants to come and go freely would be a major safety hazard and a logistical nightmare. It has never been a part of Myschievia process.

TL;DR
  • Exodus → Noon Monday. Pack it up and GTFO!
  • Early Entry → Only Infrastructure, Leads, META and first-shift volunteers get in early (and only if they've submitted an early entry request).
  • Re-Entry → Nope. Not happening. No exceptions.
  • DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE OR AFTER GATE HOURS. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER AND WILL BE TOLD TO LEAVE.

We know some of these rules can feel a little crunchy, but they’re all in place to keep Myschievia safe and thriving. As you arrive on our new land for Mycelial Dreams, you’ll notice colored flags and poles marking the layout of our mushroom village. Here’s how to read them: 

💗 Pink Poles & Flags – Roads
  • Pink flags and poles mark the roads.
  • New this year: poles with reflective bands at the top to help you navigate at night.
  • One-way vs. Two-way: On the map, arrows show one-way roads; dashed lines mark two-way.
  • Road names help: “Streets” are two-way, “Lanes” are one-way.
💚 Green Flags – Theme Camps
  • Green marks theme camp areas. Your camp number is written on the flag.
  • The green can blend into the grass, so take your time when looking for placement.
💛 Yellow Flags – Boundaries
  • Yellow flags mark the boundary lines between camps.
  • Boundaries weren’t marked in full—mostly near roads—so edges may wobble. If you’re unsure, talk with your neighbors, make friends, and work it out together.
  • Most camps ended up with a little more square footage than requested. If open camping fills up and you’ve got space, invite folks in. It’s a great way to make friends and strengthen the web of us.
🎨 Art Markers – Yard Signs
  • Art installations will be marked with white yard signs decorated with mushrooms, and showing the name of the art piece clearly
🔴 Red Flags – Fire & Safety
  • Red flags mark the burn perimeter, fire lanes, or hazards. Please respect these markings to keep everyone safe.

​A Note on Patience 
This is our first year on new land, and it’s new to all of us. There may be some confusion about where things are, and that’s okay. Please be patient—with yourself, your neighbors, and your fellow mushrooms—as we all learn the layout together. 

Pro tip: Print a copy of the map to carry with you—it’ll make navigating easier. I also put extra care into the details: the tree symbols on the map reflect the actual trees on site. 

Follow the flags, set up, and help weave our new city into being!

​This year’s map is extra special as it marks our first year on new land. It’s going to take all of us to bring the web to life, and the map is your guide to finding your way, your people, and your place.

Work Weekend – All Hands on Deck!
At the last work weekend, Sept. 26–28, we’ll be flagging and marking everything so our mushroom village is ready for hippies to sprout in the right spots. It’s also a perfect chance to scope out your theme camp’s location and fine-tune your setup. Can’t make work weekend? No worries! You can still help by signing up for a Zone Guide shift  during the event to help folks find their way across the new land.

What’s different this year?
  • More open pastures, fewer trees → bring your sunscreen!,
  • Stronger ground → more RVs and cars can be placed directly in theme camps.,
  • Open RV camping! There’s a designated strip marked on the map. Please fill that first. Much of open camping is flat and RV-friendly, too.

MOOP stands for Matter Out Of Place. That usually means trash, but it can be anything–clothing items, jewelry, food scraps–if it isn’t present on land naturally, then it’s MOOP! A huge part of our job as Earth Guardians is ensuring that the MOOP burners drop doesn’t get left behind to trash the land and affect wildlife (and the llamas!). With just a little awareness, you can make less MOOP and help us keep our burn clear of trash!

Our biggest tips:
  • Come prepared to pack out your own trash. There are no trash cans on land, so show up with your own trash bags and have a plan to haul out what you brought in.
  • Reduce trash created on land by removing unnecessary packaging before you arrive. Think reusable containers, bulk boxes instead of individually-packaged snacks, etc. The less paper and plastic waste you bring in, the less you have to bring out!
  • Avoid wearing clothing/costumes that shed. Think sequins, feathers, rhinestones–anything small that can pop off unnoticed and become accidental MOOP.
  • If you see MOOP in the wild, please help out your burn! Pick it up (if it’s safe), and dispose of it in your camp trash. You might not notice a few extra pieces, but it can save us whole bags to haul out later.
  • If you see someone else drop MOOP, don’t be afraid to yell “MOOP” until they pick it up!

Overall, just hang onto as much of your trash as you can. We’re all stewards of the land, and it’s our goal as burners to ultimately LEAVE NO TRACE! Plus we want to make a good impression on our new hosts!
