Rangers are the eyes and ears of Myschievia. They provide information, mediate disputes, and provide a safe environment in which to play. They wear green shirts (to fade into the forest when they are not needed) and carry radios (to quickly call for help). During the burn, Rangers also act as security, surrounding the burning effigy until fire personnel deems the situation to be safe.
Rangering can be (and is) a lot of fun, and is a great opportunity to explore the land and meet your fellow Myschievians. If this sounds like your cup of tea, then quickly get on the Myschievia Rangers email list so you're in the loop. We recently had to rebuild it, so if you were on before you may need to re-subscribe. You can email ranger.lead@ntxb.org to be added, or add yourself at http://ntxb.org/mailman/listinfo/rangers_ntxb.org
Any useful skills an individual Ranger possesses (e.g. crisis intervention, CERT training, fire safety, first aid/CPR training) should be brought to the attention of the Ranger Lead and/or your Shift Lead. Volunteers who have not previously Rangered at other burn events during the calendar year must attend a mandatory training. Training dates will be announced on the Myschievia Rangers email list.
MEATs are licensed or certified medical professionals, or individuals certified in first aid/first response. Their primary role is to provide non-invasive first aid though they can respond in a life-threatening emergency while Rangers call 911 and facilitate transfer to a higher level of care. Interested participants may contact the MEATs lead at meat.lead@ntxb.org
This is the team that STOPS the fires, and on burn night, are some of the most important and needed personnel. If you have any experience with fire suppression, (or are interested in learning), contact our Fire Lead via the Rangers at fire.marshal@ntxb.org
