Leave No Trace

THE SITE WILL BE RETURNED TO ITS ORIGINAL PRE-EVENT CONDITION BY THE PARTICPANTS!

Participants are responsible for disposing of their own trash and recycling materials, not littering during the event, and helping to keep all areas clean. Anything that does not occur naturally in Midwest Texas should not be left behind. This includes cigarette butts, bottle caps, banana peels, paper waste, peanut shells, glitter, apple cores and a whole mess of other things.

NEVER LET IT HIT THE GROUND.

There are NO trash cans provided. You must make/bring your own trash can. Bring a whole box of trash bags. That way, you know you'll have enough for everything. Be an Earth Guardian for your camp and make sure things are kept tidy. Fifteen minutes a day to clean up makes departure day super quick and easy. Your campsite will be checked for cleanliness before you leave. If you separate your trash from recycling, clearly label your bags so people don't mix it up. Wet trash can be placed out in the sun on a piece of black plastic to allow it to dry up before bagging. This reduces the weight of your trash, and can reduce the smell of it later.

Info for Smokers

If you're a smoker, bring a small container to carry with you for cigarette butts. They are not only irritating trash to clean up later, but they are a severe fire safety risk in this region. Altoids or other small tins work GREAT for this.

Tips on Reducing Trash

Buy in bulk. Consume less packaging. Bring drinks in aluminum cans. Or better yet, get a keg for your camp! Don't buy disposable cups/plates/utensils. Instead, encourage people to bring their own non-disposable utensils. Leave excess packaging at home by putting individually packaged items into Zip Locks or Tupperware. Use reusable/collapsible water cans instead of disposable jugs. Bring crushable aluminum cans instead of heavy/breakable glass.
